War is the most violent and the least civilized way to set or prove a right for something. The aim of this essay is to define the psychological effects of war on the society. As it has been said in the International Journal of Innovative Research and Studies, “in wars national development is arrested, education, economy and technology left backward, leaders become cruel and unjust, military is too expensive and humans become victims.” (IJIRS, p. 262). This is important for everyone in this world to realize all those destructive factors that can be uprooted due to war.
Our society has experienced a lot of different wars and realized that all of them are bloody, leading to economical, social, psychological and cultural harm. Once, I heard a saying: “When people stop learning history, they start doing the same crucial mistakes of the past.” Of course, all the wars are different. They vary in their causes and their consequences are also different from age to age, but some of them remain similar from one war to another one: “human health life stands at the front line of victimization.” (IJRS, p. 261).
Here is a short list of psychological dimensions of war:
orphans who lost their parents;
mentally sick ex-militaries due to traumatic stress;
bringing material and human capital reduction to those who are not touched directly by the war.
All the countries that have experienced military actions recently show a high level of orphans, because children lose their fathers, sometimes mothers or both during the war on absolutely different reasons. This leads to additional economical impact because the society will have to pay more taxes for taking care of those children. There are more homeless people, since they lost their homes, jobs and relatives. As a result of it, there can be observed increasing of epidemics and violation of laws. This effect can appear at any time during the war and become its aftereffect. The countries that have sent their troops, including the United States of America, experience high level of mentally sick ex-militaries who need help of specialists constantly. This is also a huge problem because such people can start abuse alcohol or drugs, they can be violent, and that is why such people are often isolated from the society.
The brightest example of a modern civil war can be Crisis in Ukraine. The initial reason of which was its former president’s, Viktor Yanukovych, decision to deny association with the European Union in November, 2013. Right now, there is an actual war in Eastern part of Ukraine, where people struggled to become separated from Ukraine and uniting with the Russian Federation. Their separatists’ intentions were cut off and now there is a civil war. Many people died including small children. There is crisis in every sphere of the state: education, because the country can no longer provide children with free education; shortage of jobs and salaries; energy crisis, people experience blackouts every day because government does not have enough coal to provide the Hydro-power stations for scheduled operation.
As everyone can see, it is easy to start a war, there does not have to be a really serious reason. There has to be an interest of some parties who would provide the fire of war with more people, weapon and ideas to fight for. Of course, this is much better when there are people who would be able to find more civilized ways to solve a problem, who would be able to negotiate and avoid any possibility of starting the war. No country needs economic disintegration, violence, social disruptions, and high mortality.
