On the one hand, distraction is the obstacle to our doing important things and it can harm our lives. First, distraction can be deadly, for example, when you are driving and, suddenly, your cell phone begins to ring – you reach to pick it up, and, as a result, you get into an accident. Second, it can influence your performance at work and result in your professional failure, especially if you work at home: your attention can be drawn away by having to run to the fridge and get something yummy out of it, posting comments on your Facebook page or some other “important” thing. Third, it is likely to interfere with your family relationship. The people you love can feel the attention supposed to be given to them is being “stolen” by a computer or a cell phone.
On the other hand, distraction can be viewed positively. In psychology, distraction technique is used to help people relax and overcome anxiety. For instance, if you are stressed out, you need to divert yourself by being absorbed in something, like doing cross-stitch, cooking or scuba diving.
To conclude, I would like to stress that though distraction can have an adverse effect on our lives, like cures like, and distraction can serve well to the person who practices it in an appropriate way.
