10 Fails When the Job Interview is Broken

Fail 1. Unpunctuality

Come to the place before the appointed time (10-15 minutes early). Specify the route and the way of entering the building, floor, office number, etc. If you get stuck in a traffic jam, be sure to call and explain your situation.

Fail 2. Inappropriate Clothes

The first impression usually lasts 17 seconds. Get dressed more conservatively than you dress every day. Choose dark colors and be neat and tidy. Don’t forget about your hair, nails and deodorant.

Fail 3. Chewing, Smoking, Hangover Syndrome

Fail 4. Ringing Cellphone

Don’t show your disrespect to the interlocutor; turn off your mobile before the start.

Fail 5. Shyness

Of course, you are nervous. Can you give a smile? And make eye contact with the interlocutor? Show your enthusiasm – it is what all of the recruiters want to see.

Fail 6. Lack of Knowledge About the Employing Company

Get prepared; read some information about the company’s history, products it produces or services provided, competitors, latest market news, names of executives, etc.

Fail 7. Ignorance of Your Strengths or Weaknesses

Answers like: “I can’t praise myself” are not appropriate. You will fail the answer and minimize your chances of getting hired.

Fail 8. Unpreparedness

Don’t avoid preparing for the job interview. Study the most popular questions that recruiters usually ask. Write down smart answers and examples. Ask a friend or a family member to help you practice. Imagine them to be your recruiter and practice.

Fail 9. Verbosity

Speaking off topic, interrupting the recruiter and answering a simple question for 15 minutes – all this will annoy the recruiter. Get some practice beforehand and you will avoid this.
Remember these three principles: sit quietly, listen carefully, and answer thoughtfully.

Fail 10. Inflated Ego and Arrogance

Get ready to play the role of being chosen, and forget any hope of getting chosen. The only time you can speak about you wishes will be after the final words: “You are hired.”
Don’t tell the recruiter that you have other opportunities. Don’t boast that several companies are fighting for your candidacy.
