history-essay-sampleIn this essay related to slavery and Civil War, we are to ponder upon whether slavery was the only cause of the Civil War? The topic had been debated upon by many since quite a lot of time. However, there has been observed a clear rift of opinion between the experts. Some are convinced of their belief that in spite of the fact that there was a plethora of events and causes that led to the Civil War, the one single main reason was slavery. Just on the other hand, some choose to put their faith in the belief that the Civil War was a culmination of several causes and events. In this essay, we will cite evidence supporting our notion that Slavery was, in fact, at the heart of all the causes of Civil War.
The Civil War was ignited by a number of issues, which include:

  • State Rights
  • The Preservation of Union
  • The Role of Federal Government
  • The Economy

The role of slavery in bringing on the Civil War has been under the debate for decades. We can approach the issue by analyzing what the contemporary observers have to say. Most professional historians of recent times agree with Alexander H. Stephens, Vice President of the Confederates States of America. According to him, from 1861 to 1865 slavery which resulted in an abominable status of African Americans, was at the heart of the crisis that plunged the U.S. into a civil war.
America could not be seen as being a homogeneous society by the year 1960. Different areas could be identified that had different outlooks and different values, which could be clearly within the two sides of the North versus the South. These differences in cultures, views, thoughts and perceptions led to the growing ego on one of the two races of North and South America which ultimately led to slavery. At the start of the American Revolution in 1775, slavery existed in all 13 colonies. While some Americans hung between the thoughts of the contradiction between the Declaration of Independence’s of Human Equality and the then contemporary scenario of slavery, little or no measures were taken to curb the growing trend of slavery. The North Americans states decided to involve slavery following the revolution. In South America, however, the future of slavery stayed debated.
We can end by bringing to the limelight that although many reasons could be cited that lead to the beginning of the Civil War, almost all of them had slavery as a direct or indirect cause at their roots. Thus, it can be concluded that Slavery was, in fact, at the heart of all the causes of Civil War.
