Identify Your Chances to Become a Medical Student in the US

Do you want to know how to become a general practitioner, dentist, or surgeon?
Do you want to know how to get a medical education in the United States?
This article is written for parents and students, dreaming of receiving medical education in the US.

So, you are a high school graduate or a first or second year college student, and you have a desire to get a medical education in the United States. What do you need to do?
First you need to earn a bachelor’s degree in any discipline, but preferably in natural science. The bachelors program usually takes four years. From the beginning of the 4th or 5th semester, you should enroll in a pre-Med program in addition to your main courses.
Let’s take a look at an example of becoming a doctor in one of the US universities.

– University of New Hampshire.

You can start the bachelor’s program, for example, in chemistry or chemical engineering, or take programs in the field of the environmental sciences.
To start these programs, you should go to the university’s pre-Professional Health Programs advisors office where you will be asked many questions before receiving advice.
Here are some of the main questions: What type of doctor do you want to become? Would you like to be a dentist or orthopedic surgeon? Or, do you wish to major in some other medical specialty? The chosen medical specialty influences the exam list that you will need to pass after a pre-Med program. For instance, orthopedic majors must take the MCAT exam, dentists – DAT, ophthalmologists – OAT. The exam type will determine the courses (subjects) you will take while in the pre-Med program.
You can learn more about the types of programs and courses on the university website. The duration of the pre-Med program is not limited, which means if a student has passed all required courses, he or she can sign up for exams. This can be done in the third or the fourth year of studying – it depends on the student – how fast he “will master” the program.
MCAT exams are taken several times throughout the year, and if it needed, you can register for exams in other US cities. You can find this information at the official website of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
