The term «Bohemian» has appeared in French as one of the names of Roma that lived in Bohemia, (area of modern Czech Republic) in the Middle Ages. The term appeared in France in the first half of the 19th century and became very popular after the appearance of a Henri Murger collection “Scenes from the Life of Bohemia” in 1849.
